OF THE JULY 11, 2006, PUBLIC EXIT MEETING TO DISCUSS THE RESULTS OF THE NRCS CONFIRMATORY ACTION LETTER (CAL)
FOLLOWUP INSPECTIONS IN THE HUMAN PERFORMANCE AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS AREAS On July 11, 2006, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at the Quail Hollow Resort in Painesville, Ohio. The meeting was between NRC Region III and FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC) management to discuss the results of the NRCs CAL followup inspections in the areas of Human Performance Action Item Implementation and Emergency Preparedness Action Item Implementation and Effectiveness.
The meeting notice, NRC presentation, and licensee presentation can be found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) as ML061930118, ML061930406, and ML061930397, respectively. A list of principal NRC and licensee meeting participants can be found in the attached Enclosure.
The NRC began the meeting with a review of Perrys performance since entering the Multiple/Repetitive Degraded Cornerstone column of the NRCs Action Matrix. This was followed by an overview of the CAL and a brief summary of the results of previous CAL followup inspection activities. The results of the NRCs inspections of the actions implemented by the licensee to address issues in the Human Performance and Emergency Preparedness areas were then discussed. As part of this public exit meeting, FENOC responded to the NRCs assessment and discussed the progress of improvement efforts at Perry. At the end of the meeting, members of the public were given the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials and FENOC representatives.
