(Update) This update is being provided regarding the tritium migration issue at the Braidwood plant. Licensee monitoring and characterization efforts are ongoing. The

,/extent of migration of the tritium is being evaluated through installation of new wells

'*, ** onsite, offsite, and along the discharge pipe. Most recent sample results have indicated tritium levels above background at two offsite locations along the discharge pipe.

Specifically, tritium levels of approximately 25,000-30,000 picocuries per liter and 7,800 picocuries per liter have been identified at vacuum breaker No. 4 (located just offsite) and No. 7 (located about 2 miles west of the Kankakee River), respectively. The staff plans to issue an inspection report in the near term which details our actions to date, and an additional onsite inspection is planned for the week of February 13, 2006.
