Dear Ms. Fox:
I am responding to the questions you raised at the public meeting on March 28, 2006, to discuss the results of the NRC Special Inspection Team at Indian Point. Specifically, you raised concerns related to the findings of the Tooth Fairy project. In addition, you asked for information from the state and county plans regarding the bussing of adults and school children in the event of a radiological release at the Indian Point Energy Center. Your principal concern in this matter seemed to be the ability of people in your area without personal transportation to be evacuated, as well as the need for buses to repeatedly re-enter the emergency planning zone following a radiological release. Given that you did not provide us with any direct contact information where we could reach you, we are sending this information to you through your employer based on your sign-up information at the meeting.
Enclosed is a fact sheet published by the NRC Office of Public Affairs regarding the Tooth Fairy project. Hopefully, this detailed fact sheet will answer any questions you have in this matter.
With regard to transportation issues during evacuation, the Westchester County Radiological Emergency Response Plan and procedures address the availability of bus and other transportation resources, contact information, vehicle capacities, pickup points, bus routes, reception centers, etc., for both schools and the general population.
