Dear Mr. Hevesi:
I am responding to your letter of April 26, 2006, to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions Chairman, Nils J. Diaz, in which you urged the NRC to reconsider New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clintons request that the NRC perform an Independent Safety Assessment of the Indian Point Nuclear facilities. You also expressed concerns about emergency planning and preparedness at the facility. On May 31, 2006, Chairman Diaz provided a more detailed response to Senator Clinton on these issues. I believe the May 31, 2006 letter addresses your concerns and have enclosed a copy of it for your information.
