Good Afternoon my name is James Milan, I live at 335 71st Street, South Haven, I live within the 10 mile Emergency Planning Zone of Palisades.
I'm retired.
It concerns me that individuals that have never worked at or do not have background in the nuclear industry can refute individuals from the NRC, INPO and Palisades. The leaders of these organizations are Engineers, Chemist, Metallurgist with Masters and PH D Degrees. They also make a lot of money and can live where ever they want to. The majority of these people live with their families within the 1 0 mile EIPZ of Palisades and the DC Cook PRant.
When the nuclear plants were designed there were some unanswered questions. So, to be on the safe side
they were built with a 40 year life span.
Operating experience and loading techniques have proven that the reactor vessel can safely operate longer than 40 years. It does not make sense to tear down a perfectly good generation facility.
VWe need nuclear electric generation.
Coal has its pollution issues and just look at you natural gas bills. We can not be using natural gas to generate electricity.
In October of last year an over head crane automatically shut down because the brake system was out of adjustment.
The crane is designed and electronically monitored to operate that way for safety concerns. Mrs Fish is now saying that as a result of this built in safety mechanism that there was a near nuclear catastrophe. She is out making
statements that are unduly making people uneasy. We do not need the boogieman syndrome.
The NRC, Palisades and other regulator are in a lot better position to give us accurate information on the status of Palisades. Thank you.
