Indian Point Unit 3 is operating at 100% reactor power and has been on-line for 63 days.

Spent Fuel Pool Investigation Entergy is continuing the investigation into a leak from the Unit 2 spent fuel pool. Key highlights:

  • A monitoring well (MW-30) has been installed inside the spent fuel building. The well has been flushed and sampled but will not be environmentally qualified until the floor in the spent fuel building has been reconstructed. The floor was excavated to allow installation of the new gantry crane.
  • A second new monitoring well (MW-38), located on the south end of the site near the Unit 3 administration building has been drilled. Samples are being analyzed.
  • Construction has also begun on new wells in the Unit 2 transformer yard.
  • Last week split samples were taken at four locations outside the site. These samples were split among New York State (DEC/DOH), NRC and Entergy. The locations include ouffalls south of the plant, 5th Streat well in Verplanck (an abandoned well not used for drinking water) and the quarry.
  • Leak rate from the narrow crack on the southwest outside wall of the Unit 2 spent fuel building has decreased to about 10 ml/day The NRC is continuing its special inspection on the spent fuel pool issue and is continuing conference calls to brief stakeholders.
