Over the next few days to weeks, we will be processing well water samples from drinking water and non-drinking water samples from around Braidwood to assist DRS and DRP in following up on the tritium that was identified in groundwater from past spills. Gene and Bill have been primarily involved in this activity this week, either gathering samples or processing the samples and paperwork for shipment to ORISE for analysis.
In case others have to assist, I wanted to pass on the analysis criteria for each of the different types of samples that we expect to receive. All residential drinking water well samples will be analyzed for tritium only, using a detection limit of 200 pCi/liter. All other samples (shallow well, surface water, etc) will be analyzed for tritium using a detection limit of 500 pCi/liter, and one in five will be selected for a gamma spec to environmental LLDs. The samples picked for gamma spec should be "smart samples" not random. The smart samples should be from those samples collected in larger bottles (500 ml and larger).
All samples should be marked as urgent or expedited analysis.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call me on my cell phone while I am out of the office (630) 917-8477 or e-mail me. I check e-mail throughout the day.
Thanks.
