Indian Point Daily Status Report for Sept. 29, 2005 Indian Point Energy Center Daily Status Report September 29, 2005 Operational Status Indian Point Unit 2 Is operating at 100% and has been online 299 days. Indian Point Unit 3 Is operating at 100% reactor power and has been online for 119 days. Both units are conducting routine maintenance and surveillance activities.

l Varifeolls-Idaeont Daily Statu-s Report for Sept. 29, 2005 Pa 21 Unit 2 Spent-Fuel Pool Activities To keep you informed of developments regarding the Unit 2 spent-fuel pool, we will periodically Include informational updates in this daily report Current Status
Thanks to an improved method for collecting moisture from the pool wall, workers are now capturing about 1,300 milliliters (about three pints) of water daily, compared to about 500 milliliters previously. Entergy engineers and chemists are continuing to analyze soil and water samples, among other things, to learn more about the origin of the water, which may be from an active leak or one repaired in 1992. Health physics technicians are monitoring the area around the spent-fuel pool and outside the fuel storage building, In addition to the routine radiological monitoring done on a regular basis.

The radioactivity of the moisture on the wall, which Is Inside the fuel storage building, Is effectively just one percent of the radioactivity of a household smoke detector, with just normal background levels detected several feet way and outside the building. There Is no radiological hazard to workers or the public and potential environmental Impact is minimal.

Unit 3 Reduces Power Control room operators reduced Unit 3 power to about 75 percent following the inadvertent self-insertion of a control rod Into the reactor. Entergy staff will determine the cause and make repairs before withdrawing the control rod from the reactor and returning the plant to full power. At commercial nuclear power plants like Indian Point, control rods are inserted manually or automatically Into the reactor to shut down the reactor.

Update Dry Cask Storage Factsheets Available Entergy has produced an updated informational brochure, available In electronic and hardcopy format that explains the details of dry cask storage. Contact Andrea Blizard at 914-271-7081 or by return email at kmcmull@entergy.com <mailto:kmcmull~entergy.com> -for a copy.

Entergy Nuclear Northeast provides customized outreach education programs for schools, youth groups, and civic organizations.
