Stu, This e-mail is in response to the subject urgent request.

No NRC-licensed research or test reactor has released tritium to the environment over the last year except for normal releases, which meet regulatory requirements.

I would be pleased to hear from you, if you have any questions.

Regards, Marv

>>> Stuart Richards 12/02/05 3:23 PM >>> N 4-Braidwood is presently dealing with a situation where tritium may have migrated off-site following events that occurred in the past. A PN was issued which provides details.

Congressional staffers were briefed on this issue today. Based on this briefing, we have been tasked with identifying plant events in the last year, or regulatory actions in the last year that brought to the staff's attention the release of tritium to Unrestricted Areas. We discussed this with the EDO staff, and "unrestricted area" means offsite. Normal releases to the environment meeting regulatory requirements do not count.

We need NOT contact licensees for this information. The request is for information that we already have.

NMSS is tasked with this item for materials licensees.

Research and Test Reactors will be coordinated through the NRR Division of Policy and Rulemaking (DPR).

Call me if you have questions.
