MN No.06-005 U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION REGION I NOTICE OF SIGNIFICANT MEETING March 10, 2005 Licensee:
Entergy Nuclear Northeast Facility:
Indian Point Nuclear Generating Unit 2 and Unit 3 Docket Nos.
50-247 and 50-286 Time and Date:
6:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m., March 28, 2006 Location:

Purpose:
The NRC Special Inspection Team, established on September 21, 2005 to assess Entergys efforts to evaluate the Unit 2 Spent Fuel Pool leakage and the subsequently identified on-site tritium contamination of ground water, has completed its preliminary review. In view of ongoing public interest, the NRC has scheduled this meeting is to provide information based on the NRC inspection effort, Entergys investigation and assessment of the on-site conditions, and the State of New Yorks independent monitoring of the groundwater in and around the Indian Point Energy Center. Representatives of NRC, the State of New York, and Entergy will present current assessment information based on activities completed to-date, including radiological assessment of public health and safety and the environment, characterization of the groundwater, and the results from radioanalysis of groundwater samples taken at various on-site and off-site locations. Following the presentations, representatives from the NRC, Entergy, and the State of New York Department of Environmental Conservation will respond to questions.

The Indian Point Special Inspection public meeting is a Category 3 Meeting. Public participation is actively sought. There will be substantial opportunities during the meeting where public comment and questions will be invited.
Information and correspondence regarding the Indian Point tritium contamination and tritium contamination in general can be found on the NRC web site at the following locations:
www.nrc.gov/reactors/plant-specific-items/indian-point-issues.html www.nrc.gov/reactors/operating/ops-experience/grndwtr-contam-tritium.html As indicated on the NRCs web site update dated March 3, 2006, NRC review and radiological assessments thus far indicate that public health and safety has not been adversely affected; and any dose to the public that can be attributed to current onsite conditions is negligible with respect to conservatively established NRC limits. Although licensee activities, NRC oversight, and New York State involvement are continuing, the completion of the NRC Special Inspection is an appropriate milestone for updating the public in a forum near the site. The NRC Special Inspection Team report will be available via the NRC web site prior to the meeting.
