I spoke to Dr. Harvin this morning (10:00 a.m. cmnOctober 20). Ilanswered her questions on the HPCI system relating to the SSD1 finding from this summer [Ref. Dr. Harvin's fax from 10/14/04].
Basically, I told her that PSEG modified the injection line orifices to achieve the required design flow at the design p~ressure. They did this through a design change process that included a 50.59 screening/evaluation. PSEG performed testing combined with engineering analysis to demonstrate the system was operable. The SSDI team, that was onsite at the time, reviewed PSEGs work and found it acceptable.
I told her that there no relationship to the issue associated with the injection line orifices and HPCI's performance during the October 1 0 event. With regard to her question about HPCI operability prior to the October 1 0 event, I informed her that was being reviewed by the SIT currently onsite.
In response, she indicated that two individuals onsite had informed her that PSEG had not performed post maintenance testing following the modification and a 50.59 evaluation had not been completed. I encouraged her to have these individuals contact Dave Vito and provide the specifics to him. We would then treat the information within our allegation process.
