OF DECEMBER 13, 2005, MEETING TO DISCUSS TURBULENT PENETRATION AS RELATED TO DUANE ARNOLD ENERGY CENTERS HIGH PRESSURE COOLANT INJECTION (HPCI) SYSTEM (TAC NO. MC8595)
On December 13, 2005, members of the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff met with Duane Arnold Energy Center (DAEC) representatives at NRC Headquarters, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD. The meeting was a Category 1 public meeting.
The purpose of the meeting was to allow DAEC representatives to present the cork screw convection methodology which is formally known as Turbulent Penetration, and to discuss its relationship to the high pressure coolant injection system (HPCI). Additionally, DAEC representatives discussed the potential causes of steam void formation in the HPCI system, and actions taken. The NRC staff asked questions and provided feedback. DAEC plans to further evaluate the issue of the void formation.
No regulatory decisions were made at the meeting.
The meeting agenda was provided with the meeting notice (ML053210135). The licensees presentation slides are enclosed. A list of attendees is enclosed.
