Dear Mr. Norton:

We are writing to congratulate you and your former staff on the significant accomplishment of safely and successfully completing the initial phase of decommissioning at the former Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company site in Wiscasset, Maine. This campaign allowed spent fuel to be safely transferred for onsite storage at the Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation and the former Protected Area for the Nuclear Power facility to be released for unrestricted use.

These actions were accomplished while maintaining high standards for radiological and industrial safety. In particular, we acknowledge your efforts to obtain input from the State of Maine, the Maine Yankee Community Advisory Panel and other stakeholders to enhance the project outcome.

We appreciated the professional manner of the interactions among our staffs as we sought to ensure that NRC regulatory requirements were met.
