SUBJECT:

SECURITY SIGNIFICANCE DETERMINATION PROCESSES

Dear Mr. Floyd:

This acknowledges receipt of your letter to Mr. William Kane, dated November 17, 2005, by which you forwarded a revised Optional Significance Determination Process for use by the industry and the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission for a trial period of one year. I and my staff look forward to resuming the trial process once other higher priority activities are completed and resources are again available to continue this effort. Someone from my staff will contact your organization when we are again able to focus on this task; probably in late first quarter 2006.

If you have any questions related to this matter, please contact Barry Westreich, Chief, Security Oversight Section at 301-415-0221.

Sincerely,

/RA/

Roy P. Zimmerman, Director Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response
