AUDIT REPORT FOR SCOPING AND SCREENING METHODOLOGY FOR THE MONTICELLO NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION

Dear Mr. Conway:

By letter dated March 16, 2005, Nuclear Management Company, LLC, (NMC or the applicant) submitted an application pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 54 (10 CFR Part 54) to renew the operating license for the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant (MNGP), for review by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The NRC staff conducted an audit of the scoping and screening methodology used in developing the license renewal application (LRA). The focus of the staffs audit was to evaluate the administrative controls governing implementation of the LRA scoping and screening methodology and review of the technical basis for selected scoping and screening results for various plant systems, structures, and components. The audit team also reviewed quality attributes for aging management programs and training for personnel that developed the LRA.

The report documenting the results of the audit is now publicly available. This report can be viewed through the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) using accession number ML051990091. The ADAMS Public Electronic Reading Room is accessible from the NRCs Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html.
