OFFICE OF NUCLEAR REACTOR REGULATION REORGANIZATION
Dear Mr. Conen:
The Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR) has been reorganized to support anticipated new-reactor licensing, risk-informed regulation, and generally improve the effectiveness and efficiency of NRR's programs and processes. The new organization was effective on October 30, 2005.
The previous five large divisions have been expanded to nine smaller divisions. Each division is headed by a division director and one or two deputy directors. The former Division of Licensing Project Management, which previously had responsibility for topical report reviews, is now designated as the Division of Operating Reactor Licensing and will focus primarily on operating plant licensing activities. Topical report reviews will now be managed by the Special Projects Branch in the newly created Division of Policy and Rulemaking (DPR). In the new DPR, as in all of NRR, the first-line supervisors, Section Chiefs, are redesignated as Branch Chiefs.
We invite you to consider a drop-in visit to meet the new management officials within the next few months. Your executives would meet with Jim E. Dyer, Director of NRR, and Gary M.
Holahan, Associate Director for Risk Assessment and New Projects. Your staff would meet with the new DPR Director, Chris I. Grimes, and the two Deputy Directors of DPR, Herb N.
Berkow and Ho K. Nieh.
