Unclassified Aircraft Attacks on Indian Point NRC has conducted an extensive analysis of the potential vulnerability of nuclear power plants to aircraft attack. These studies confirm that the likelihood of damaging the reactor core and releasing radioactivity that could affect public health and safety is low.
- This analysis also shows that time is available to successfully implement plant mitigative measures and offsite emergency plans.
- Significant damage to a spent fuel pool is improbable.
- Highly unlikely that aircraft impact on a dry spent fuel cask would cause a significant release of radioactivity.
