SUBJECT:
ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF REQUEST FOR USE OF FRENCH-DESIGNED AIR SUPPLIED RESPIRATOR EQUIPMENT WITH ASSIGNED PROTECTION FACTOR FOR HUMBOLDT BAY POWER PLANT UNIT 3
Dear Ms. Jacobs:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has received your application dated October 7, 2005, requesting NRC authorization, pursuant to Title 10 Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR), Section 20.1705, to (1) use French-designed respiratory protection equipment that has not been tested and certified by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, (2) to not provide standby rescue persons whenever this equipment is used, and (3) to take credit for an assigned protection factor of 5000 for this equipment.
We have completed the initial processing, which is an administrative review, and have accepted your application for a more detailed technical review. The more detailed technical review may identify omissions in the submitted information or technical issues that require additional information (RAI). These will be forwarded to you under separate cover in the future. The staff expects to complete its review by November 30, 2005, if no RAI is required.
If you have any questions on these matters, please contact me at (301) 415-3017.
Sincerely,
/RA/
