Dear Mr. Filip,
Per our telephone conversation on September 15, 2005, Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, PA 7670905, is requesting an extension to Permit No. 6704516 MA Temporary Use of Reverse Osmosis, which currently expires on September 30, 2005.
Several issues have arisen which must be resolved prior to turning over the Domestic Water System for use and reaching completion of the Water Plant Modification:
- 1. The design of the hypochlorite injection point was determined to be inadequate. The inlet nipple to the domestic water system became blocked from corrosion buildup. The apparent cause for this blockage is that the Hypochlorite needs to be mixed prior to going into carbon steel piping. A new corrosion resistant static mixing tee will be installed to resolve this issue.
- 2. The A and B Polishing Filters discharge outlet values MO-0-38B-70071A (B) have broken motor operators. The operators/valves need to be replaced. Our procurement group has determined that the existing operators/valves are obsolete. The evaluation to support a replacement motor operator is in progress and will be completed shortly.
- 3. Following installation of the parts listed in items 1 and 2, a modification testwill be performed -to ensure all portions -of the system -are-fdunctioningn-as designed.
To allow additional time for resolution to the above-mentioned issues, Peach Bottom is requesting an extension to December 31, 2005 for Permit No. 6704516 MA for continued use of reverse osmosis.
