Fwd: Vermont Yankee Update In case you haven't seen this yet, VY's press office put out another advisory to reporters on the search for the missing spent fuel pieces. Note that this advisory states that the camera search of the pool is now completed. It also fails to give any time estimate for the wrapping up of the company's investigation.

Vermont Yankee Update FYI:

Entergy's special fuel rod investigation team continues its work with record reviews and interviews on parallel tracks. In the month since the start of the work, Vermont Yankee has:

1. Assembled a team consisting of VY staff, Entergy employees from other Entergy plants, and external contractors.
2. Completed a thorough video camera inspection of the entire spent fuel pool (under the spent fuel racks, on top of the spent fuel racks, inside over 100 vacant fuel storage cells, and inside all storage containers in the spent fuel pool). There were no segments found during that search.
3. Verified that all spent fuel assemblies stored in the pool are in the correct fuel rack locations.
4. Established work instructions to direct team activities.
5. Identified more than 3,500 documents requiring review.
6. Identified about 100 names as possible interviewees who have been associated with pool operations over the years and we have initiated those interviews.
7. Began the careful process of methodically reviewing documents, recording pertinent information and performing independent verification of information.

Although we had originally planned to have the work completed in May, we have expanded the scope in several areas. For instance, the number of interviewees has grown from around 65 to about 100. The work continues on records review and interviews. As the research is completed, a thorough root cause analysis will be done and then we'll implement any additional long-term corrective actions that are necessary. We are taking the time necessary to do the job right on each of the tasks.

The State of Vermont and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission are continuing to oversee our investigation. The NRC special inspection team formed to independently evaluate our fuel segment investigation will be returning to the plant site as our investigation nears completion.

The NRC has established a separate web page dedicated to its oversight of these activities.
