Additional information re: VY power uprate application review
- Toby, Here's some additional information on the NRC's review of the Vermont Yankee power uprate application:
- It's expected about 4,000 NRC staff-hours will be devoted to the review.
- The NRC will conduct hundreds of hours on on-site inspections as part of the review.
- There will be a thorough review of all systems important to safety that would be impacted by the power uprate.
- Review areas will include: steam dryer integrity; flow-accelerated corrosion; environmental considerations; human performance and training; maintenance and testing; radiological consequences; containment building performance; fire protection; erosion/corrosion; civil engineering; mechanical engineering; chemical engineering; piping integrity; vessel and internals integrity; spent fuel pool; and instrumentation and controls.
- The review will include lessons learned from previous power uprates.
- The Advisory Committee on Reactor Safety, an independent body of 11 individuals with a wide range of engineering experience, will make recommendations to the Commission regarding the proposed power uprate.
