Drop-In Visit from Frank Cassidy, PSEG Power On December 17, 2003, Hub Miller, Jim Wiggins, and Jack Crlenjak of the NRC Region I met with Frank Cassidy, President of PSEG Power, the Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) division which includes the PSEG Nuclear subsidiary with Salem and Hope Creek.
During the meeting the following topics were discussed:
- 1.
Current developments regarding operation of the electrical grid - issues identified in the recent joint US\\Canada report of the August 2003 blackout.
- 2.
Organizational changes and investment/budget plans at Salem and Hope Creek.
- 3.
General discussion of station performance as documented in NRC inspection reports, assessment letters, and inspection exit meetings, such as the meeting Hub Miller and Randy Blough attended the previous day on site. Miller emphasized that inspection results indicate there is a lot of work to do -- there is a need for significant continuing management attention to station performance.
- 4.
General review of NRC observations of plant performance across the Northeast as previously discussed with other groups such as QA managers.
The meeting began at 10:15 a.m. and ended at 12:00 a.m., with expressions of thanks. No regulatory decisions were requested or made.
