I repeatedly and emphatically told Ferland why the letter was sent to him and not to Anderson..... it had to do with the nature of the info raising questions about potential corporate involvement....not a statement that we lack confidence in Roy A.
I presume this is what the Comm. told him. (I believe I explained to him (Comm. M.) why we - with careful thought - addressed the letter the way we did. This conversation with the Comm. would have been after we sent it.)

Ferland and Cassiday dropped in on Comm. Merrifield today. Word via Mike Markley is that in the brief meeting Ferland conveyed that:
- 1. NRC has his attention and he intends to fix the problems at Salem & Hope Creek.
- 2. Roy Anderson has his complete confidence and will be the person entrusted with the job of improving performance. (Letter being sent directly to him implied that Roy may have been part of the problem; Ferland wanted to clarify.)
