I support Andy Spano's Rulemaking Petition PRM-54-02 Se Secretary U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission DOCKETED USNRC ptember 12, 2005 (3:45pm)

OFFICE OF SECRETARY RULEMAKINGS AND ADJUDICATIONS STAFF

Dear Secretary Nuclear Regulatory Commission,

I am a Westchester resident living near the Indian Point nuclear power plant.

If built today Indian Point could not be sited here. A former NRC official called such siting "a nightmare".

I support Westchester. County Executive Andy Spano's 2.802 petition PRM-54-02 which would require the NRC to take into account crucial components of public health and safety such as population density, infrastructure, and emergency planning during the license renewal process.

But I expect your organization, which should be protecting the public, to continue a deplorable intellectually dishonest tradition of handing the nuclear industry whatever it needs to protect the perceived bottom line - and hang the public interest.

A major accident at Indian Point might irrevocably cripple the U.S. economy. While this reactor operates at this location, the whole idea of "national security" is a joke.

You have a unique chance to make a difference. Take it, instead of acting in cynical disregard of the public health and safety.

You took an oath. Did it mean anything to you?

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Sincerely, jeffrey wanshel 1 spanish cove rd.
