Dear Secretary:
RULEMAKINGS AND ADJUDICATIONS STAFF Our organization, Nuclear Free Vermont by 2012, knows first hand the problems associated with license renewal of old reactors.
We support Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano's 2.802 petition, PRM-54-02.
To ensure public safety, changes are needed in the relicensing regulations. Here in Vermont, we are working for the day in March, 2012 when Entergy Nuclear Vermont Yankee closes after its forty year license expires.
Fires, inadequate maintenance, embrittlement, incomplete and inadequate evacuation plans are just a fraction of the issues that point to the closure of Vermont Yankee by 2012.
If any reactors are relicensed, to fulfill your responsibility to safeguard the public, the process needs to be drastically overhauled.
And so do the reactors and generators themselves.
