If the goal of the GE scale model facility audit is to see the VY steam dryer model, it should be emphasized that a scale model of the VY dryer and main steam system was never constructed. The model used in the SMT to generate data for the ACA benchmark was representative of Quad Cities 1, as described in Supplement 27 to the VYNPS EPU license amendment.
Additionally, it is my understanding the GE scale model is currently located at the GE Valecitos facility, not San Jose. The data from the January, 2005 SMT acquisition runs used as input to the ACA benchmark can be promptly made available.
We would appreciate a call with NRR (plus contractor), GE and Entergy to discuss audit goals and schedule. Could you arrange?

Steam Dryer Audits at GE San Jose and DC Offices
- Ronda, I just talked to Tom Scarbrough and got some clarification on the details of the steam dryer audits EMEB would like to perform. The info is as follows:
- 1) Audit at GE's San Jose office: The purpose would be to see the VY steam dryer model including a test run. The staff would like to look at data from either that test run or previous test runs. Tom said Dan Summerville of GE set up something similar for us in August 2004 for Quad Cities. This would be a one day audit and the attendees would likely be John Wu and our contractor Dr. Samir Ziada.
The timeframe on this is flexible. We understand that you are looking into the current status of the model (i.e., possibility that it is disassembled in preparation for moving to a new location) and that there may be concerns since Dr. Ziada is not a US citizen.
- 2) Audit at GE's DC office: The purpose would be to look at the background information/data which was used as a basis in preparing the RAI responses that are scheduled to be submitted by 8/1/05. This audit will likely involve several NRC headquarters staff members and all our contractors. We would like to perform the audit the week of 8/15. The audit would likely take 3 to 4 days.
