Robert Kalinowski I&M TELEPHONE CONFERENCE CALL TO DISCUSS DONALD C. COOK NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION July 1, 2005 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff (the staff) and representatives of Indiana Michigan Power Company (I&M) held a telephone conference call on July 1, 2005, to discuss and clarify the applicants commitment to enhance its new Buried Piping Inspection Program made in conjunction with the Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2, license renewal application. The following issue was discussed during the telephone conference call.
Issue: The staff questioned the applicant as to whether the new Buried Piping Inspection Program was going to include a commitment to inspection buried piping prior to entering the period of extended operation. Their current commitment requires an inspection within ten years after entering the period of extended operation. The question was predicated on the pending update to the Generic Aging Lessons Learned (GALL) Report due in September of 2005.
Discussion: The applicant indicated that the question is clear. The applicant suggested the staff look into the appropriate section of the LRA for plant-specific experience in opportunistic excavations and check with the regional inspectors to obtain the data of recent buried piping inspections. The staff reserved the right to ask additional questions if necessary.
