MILLSTONE POWER STATION, UNIT NO. 2, FACSIMILE TRANSMISSION, DRAFT REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (TAC NO. MC6257)

The attached draft request for additional information (RAI) was transmitted by facsimile on July 7, 2005, to Mr. Paul Willoughby, Dominion Nuclear Connecticut, Inc. (DNC). This draft RAI was transmitted to facilitate the technical review being conducted by the NRC staff and to support a conference call with DNC in order to clarify certain items in the licensees submittal.

This draft RAI is related to DNCs submittal dated February 25, 2005, regarding a request to modify the Technical Specification surveillance requirement for trisodium phosphate. Review of the RAI would allow DNC to determine and agree upon a schedule to respond to the RAI. This memorandum and the attachment do not convey a formal request for information or represent an NRC staff position.

DRAFT REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION MILLSTONE POWER STATION, UNIT NO. 2 DOCKET NO. 50-336 By letter dated February 25, 2005, Dominion Nuclear Connecticut, Inc. (DNC) submitted a request to modify the Technical Specification surveillance requirement for trisodium phosphate (TSP). The NRC has developed the following draft question during its review of the DNC letter:

In page 4 of the February 25, 2005 submittal, DNC stated: Past testing on compacted TSP indicates that even if the TSP crystals become compressed and partially fused together, rapid dissolution is still assured. Please justify your statement and provide more specific information on how you arrived at your results.
