JOSEPH M. FARLEY NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT 1 EVALUATION OF PRESSURE-TEMPERATURE LIMITS REPORT (TAC NO. MC5068)
Dear Mr. Stinson:
By letter dated November 5, 2004, Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC, the licensee) submitted Revision 2 of the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant, Unit 1, (FNP) Pressure Temperature Limits Report (PTLR). The FNP, Unit 1 PTLR was revised to include: (1) revision of the surveillance capsule withdrawal schedule (previously approved by the Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRC) letter dated March 15, 2004), (2) replacement of the heatup and cooldown limit curves with new curves extending the service period to 29.0 effective full power years, and (3) updating of the surveillance data credibility analysis and supplemental data sections to reflect the latest surveillance capsule analysis report.
Since the pressure-temperature limits have been removed from the technical specifications and SNC has not requested a formal review of the current PTLR, the NRC staff reviewed SNCs submittal to ensure that the approved methodology was used to modify the PTLR. On the basis of its review of SNCs submittal, the NRC staff found that the approved methodology was used to update the FNP, Unit 1 PTLR.
