SUMMARY
OF MARCH 16, 2005, ANNUAL ASSESSMENT MEETING WITH FPL ENERGY SEABROOK On March 16, 2005, at 3:00 p.m., an Annual Assessment Meeting was conducted at Seabrook Emergency Operating Facility, Newington, NH, between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and FPL Energy Seabrook, LLC (Seabrook). The NRC requested the meeting with Seabrook management to discuss the NRCs assessment of the safety performance of the Seabrook nuclear power plant for calendar year 2004.
The NRC presented and discussed its assessment of the safety performance of Seabrook Unit 1 for the period between January 1 through December 31, 2004. The NRC presentation included background, performance assessment results, an overview of calendar year 2005 planned inspections and oversight, and a discussion of general NRC issues. As part of this regulatory performance meeting, Seabrook presented an overview of their performance in the areas of Operations and Engineering.
The public observed this meeting and was offered the opportunity to communicate with the NRC regarding Seabrooks performance and the role of the agency in ensuring safe plant operations. At the end of the meeting between the NRC and Seabrook, the NRC answered questions from the public which included handling of spent fuel, control of contractors, and the results of recent steam generator inspections.
