Information is ofl 3:30 p.ra. 4-17.2005 DOMrION INVESTIGATING CAUSE OF VNIT SHUTDOWN AT MLLSTONE POWER STATION WATlERFORD. Conn. - Dominion is investigating thc cause of the autornatic shutdown of Millstone Power Station Unit 3 Sunmdy.

Dominion declared an Alert the secondlowest of four omergcncy classifications used by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissidn, at 8:42 a.m. Sunday after Unit 3 automatically shutdown becauise of indications oflow steam pressure in the secondary piping system.

The secondary piping system moves stepn from the steam generator to the turbine.

Millstone Unit 3 shit down'aut6matically at 8:29 a.m. No release of radioactivo material occurred beyond those small'releases asiaociamcd with nounal station operations. These minor releases pose no danger to the public or station workers and are below federally approved operating limits, below natural background levels and cannot be dctected at the site boundary.

Rcactor operators and other personnel responded to the Alert as traincd. Thcy wcr able to bring Millstone Unit 3, which had been operating at 100 percent, to safe shutdown status in at orderly manner.

Millstone Unit 3, a 1.l150megawatt presuriz2d water reactor, will remain shut down while the investigation occurs. No decision has been made on when the unit will be restarted.
