FAMILIES OF CANCER VICTIMS BEGIN COMMUNITY HEALTH SURVEY FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 30,2005
Contact:
Carol Ward Tel. 860-443-7982 Nancy Burton Tel. 203-938-3952 WATERFORD - Carol Ward's husband, Edward J. Ward, died of colon cancer on April 10, 2001. He was a resident of Seabreeze Drive in Waterford for 24 years.
Ed had no family history of cancer and was otherwise in good health.
Nancy Burton's mother, June K. Burton, died of non-genetic breast cancer on March 22, 2003. She was a resident of Seabreeze Drive in Waterford for 18 years. June had no family history of cancer and was otherwise in excellent health.
Carol and Nancy have learned that at least five other residents of Seabreeze Drive have been cancer victims.
Today they are launching a health survey of all current residents of Seabreeze Drive to gather data on the health of the community.
The two have sent a short questionnaire to the 31 Seabreeze Drive households.
They request each household to provide information about whether family members have suffered from cancer and other illnesses under a pledge of confidentiality.

ones as a way to honor their memory," said Carol Ward, who now resides in New London.
"We hope our former neighbors will respond to our survey and, hopefully, we will be able to use the information to assist our understanding of the cause of our losses," Ms. Ward said.
Nancy Burton said her mother was an early supporter of the Connecticut Coalition Against Millstone, which Nancy co-founded in 1999.
Although Seabreeze Drive is located less than two miles downwind of the Millstone Nuclear Power Station, she said the health survey was not confined to Millstone as a possible causative agent but would look at all factors which might have a bearing on the incidences of disease. CC:
