May 4, 2005 Mr. Alan P. Nelson Chief, Emergency Preparedness Nuclear Generation Nuclear Energy Institute 1776 I Street, NW; Suite 400 Washington, DC 20006-3708
Dear Mr. Nelson:
I would like to thank you for inviting me and agency staff to participate in the Nuclear Energy Institutes Emergency Planning Information Forum on June 13th and 14th. We welcome the opportunity to interact with your staff, licensees, and other stakeholders with regard to topics of interest to the nuclear industry. The Commission has specifically recognized that openness in our regulatory processes is essential for ensuring that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) remains a strong, fair, predictable, and credible regulator. In this regard, we are committed to sharing openly information and decision-making activities with the public, as well as facilitating stakeholder involvement.
I will present the key note address on Monday, June 13th as described on your agenda.
Members of my staff, Mr. Anthony McMurtray and Mr. Greg Casto will also support presentations. Mr. Casto is the point of contact for the NRC and will provide you specific information on other agency presenters. As per your request, we will provide you with our presentations prior to May 13th.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Casto at (301) 415-4072 or e-mail at gac@nrc.gov.
Sincerely,
/RA/
