MONTICELLO NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT - ANNOUNCEMENT OF BASELINE INSPECTION

Dear Mr. Palmisano:

On May 16, 2005, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will begin the required biennial inspection of heat sink performance at your Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant. This inspection will be performed in accordance with the NRC baseline inspection procedure 71111.07B.

This inspection was started during the week of December 6, 2004; however, due to other agency needs, this inspection was postponed. We have the necessary material to prepare for our inspection; therefore no additional material is required at this time.

The lead inspector for this inspection is Ms. Caroline Acosta Acevedo. If there are any questions about the inspection, please call the lead inspector at (630) 829-9718 or e-mail her at cea4@nrc.gov.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRC's Rules of Practice, a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRC's document system (ADAMS). ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html (the Public Electronic Reading Room).
