Ultrasonic and visual examination of the 49 Unit 1 upper vessel head penetration nozzles and head vent line penetration are completed. Due to limitations in ultrasonic examination coverage at the bottom end of 17 penetration nozzle locations, the licensee has requested relaxation (currently under staff review) from examination coverage requirements in Order EA-03-009. No leaking nozzles or evidence of vessel head wastage have been identified. However, linear indications in nozzle No. 26 J-groove weld were identified which required repair. A temper bead weld repair for this nozzle has been completed and the licensee's Code relief request to approve this repair methodology is currently under review by NRR staff.
