Point Beach Rx Vessel Nozzle Repair Relief Requests
%/On 5/26/04, L. Raghavan, Terence Chan and I provided Point Beach Unit I with a temporary verbal authorization on two code relief requests in accordance with LIC-1 02. The Regidn also participated in this call. The relief requests were associated with the temper-bead weld repair of nozzle 26. The tech. staff had reached the conclusion that the requested relief could be authorized although the SE documentation has not yet been completed.
Point Beach, Unit 1, had requested relief from selected ASME Section Xl requirements (flaw characterization & post-weld heat treatment) for a temper-bead weld repair performed on nozzle 26. In addition the licensee had requested relief from ASME Section III (PT examination after removing a structural attachment) for tack welds to the j-groove weld of nozzle 26 that were required during the nozzle repair.
Note: Brian - per your request we'll get with you later today and provide a brief of the status of the Point Beach Unit 1 head activities.
