Mon, May 17, 2004 3:10 PM Point Beach Unit 1 Remnant J-groove Weld Overlap Harold:
I've discussed the licensee's revised analysis with Terence Chan and Bill Koo. We have agreed to accept their analysis in lieu of the hardships of overlay of the remnant J-groove weld (45 man-rem) or separating the two welds by grinding (10 man-rem). This is predicated on 1.5 EFPY of operation, a more realistic crack growth model, corrections for temperature and removal of the the head from further service. This will apply to Unit I only - a separate, (more timely) submittal will be required to address this same issue for Unit 2.
I will need a TAC number and a formal submittal that defines their hardships for Unit I (since the hardships were verbally expressed on Saturday) to complete the safety evaluation.
