SUBJECT:
SURRY POWER STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 - RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 2004-01, REQUIREMENTS FOR STEAM GENERATOR TUBE INSPECTIONS (TAC NOS. MC4857 AND MC4858)
Dear Mr. Christian:
On August 30, 2004, the NRC staff issued Generic Letter (GL) 2004-01, Requirements for Steam Generator Tube Inspections to the industry. The purpose of this generic letter was to obtain information that would enable the NRC staff to determine whether a licensees steam generator (SG) tube inspection program complies with the existing tube inspection requirements (the plant technical specifications in conjunction with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 50, Appendix B).
By letter dated October 29, 2004, Virginia Electric and Power Company (VEPCO) provided its response to GL 2004-01 for Surry Power Station, Units 1 and 2. After reviewing VEPCOs response, the NRC staff did not identify any concerns with the inspection practices related to GL 2004-01 that are employed at Surry. Therefore, the NRC staff concludes that VEPCOs SG tube inspection practices related to GL 2004-01 are in compliance with the existing SG tube inspection requirements.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact Stephen Monarque at (301) 415-1544.
Sincerely,
/RA/
