- CATEGORY ONE MEETING -

REGULATORY PERFORMANCE MEETING - SURRY POWER STATION, DOCKET NOS. 50-280 AND 50-281

Dear Mr. Christian:

This letter confirms the conversation between Mr. Barry Garber of your staff and Mr. Norman Garrett of the NRC staff on March 3, 2005, concerning an Regulatory Performance Meeting (Category One public meeting) requested by us which is scheduled for March 30, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. The meeting will be at the Surry Nuclear Information Center (SNIC) which is located at 5470 Hog Island Road, Surry, VA. The purpose of this meeting is to arrive at a shared understanding of the performance issues, underlying causes, and your corrective actions associated with a degraded Mitigating Systems Cornerstone. Surry Units 1 and 2 were in the degraded cornerstone during the first three quarters and the first quarter of calendar year 2004, respectively. Results of a supplemental inspection, conducted in December 2004, for the degraded cornerstone are contained in NRC Inspection Reports 05000280/2004011 and 05000281/2004011. The meeting notice is enclosed.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRCs Rules of Practice, a copy of this letter and its enclosure will be made available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRC's document system (ADAMS).
