Pursuant to a telephone conference with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff on February 16, 2005, the South Texas Project withdraws relief request RR-ENG-IWE-07 from further consideration for approval. The referenced correspondence requested NRC approval of an alternative approach to the requirements of IWE-3510 to allow a general visual inspection of the containment liner in place of a VT-3 examination.
However, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has agreed that the containment liner inspection methods intended for use at the South Texas Project satisfy the requirements of a VT-3 examination as allowed under the Code of Federal Regulations. Therefore, relief is not necessary.
There are no new commitments or changes in previous commitments as a result of this withdrawal.
