Permit No. 6704516 MA Temporary Use of Reverse Osmosis Letter to PADEP dated October 28, 2004

Dear Mr. Filip,

This letter is to request an extension for the Temporary Drinking Water Permit for Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, PWS 7670905. Permit No. 6704516 MA was initially granted by the PADEP on November 9, 2004. The temporary use of reverse osmosis was necessary to replace the two polishing filters in the domestic water system while maintenance was performed to comply with the Long Term 1 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule.

We are requesting an extension to February 28, 2005 due to the following:

N several leaks were found during the acceptance test of the sodium hypochlorite injection skid; these leaks need to be repaired, and additional replacement parts for the skid need to be ordered/installed.

a the two new polishing filter effluent flow elements that were designed for use for vertical installation were sent from the vendor designed for horizontal installation; these elements send a signal to the sodium hypochlorite injection skid.

(The lead time for receipt of the replacement elements is 3 to 4 weeks.)

If you require further information, the pointsof contact are Art Arcilla (717 456-4185) or Daniel Jordan (717 456-4551).

Sincerely, Joseph P. Grimes, Plant Manager Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station JPG/FHC/DMJ/bcb C
