February 7, 2005 Mr. Karl W. Singer Chief Nuclear Officer and Executive Vice President Tennessee Valley Authority 6A Lookout Place 1101 Market Street Chattanooga, TN 37402-2801

SUBJECT:

SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 WITHDRAWAL OF REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING RESPONSE TO BULLETIN 2004-01 (TAC NOS. MC3512 AND MC3513)

Dear Mr. Singer:

By letter dated November 10, 2004, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff issued a request for additional information regarding your response to NRC Bulletin 2004-01, Inspection of Alloy 82/182/600 Materials Used in the Fabrication of Pressurizer Penetrations and Steam Space Piping Connections at Pressurized-Water Reactors. Our letter requested that you supplement your Bulletin response by agreeing to notify NRC headquarters staff if, in the future, you obtain inspection results indicating that circumferential primary water stress corrosion cracking has occurred at any location covered under the scope of Bulletin 2004-01.

The staff has subsequently concluded that the request for additional information solicits an additional reporting requirement and commitment from the licensee. Since this action is inconsistent with our internal processes, we hereby withdraw the subject request for additional information.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Sincerely,

/RA/

Douglas V. PIckett, Senior Project Manager, Section 2 Project Directorate II Division of Licensing Project Management Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Docket Nos. 50-327 and 50-328 cc: See next page
