ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF REQUEST FOR ALTERNATE DISPOSAL OF HADDAM NECK PLANT DECOMMISSIONING WASTE IN ACCORDANCE WITH 10 CFR 20.2002

Dear Mr. Norton:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has received your request for alternate disposal of decommissioning waste dated January 4, 2005, CY-05-002 for the Haddam Neck Plant. Your letter requests disposal of up to one hundred million pounds of demolition debris at the Waste Control Specialists, LLC (WCS) facility in Andrews, Texas.

We have completed the initial processing, which is an administrative review, and have accepted your application for a more detailed technical review. The more detailed technical review may identify omissions in the submitted information or technical issues that will result in a Request for Additional Information (RAI). If required, these will be forwarded to you under separate cover. The staff expects to complete its review by April, 2005. This schedule assumes no RAIs are required.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRCs Rules of Practice, a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records component of NRCs Agencywide Document Access Management System (ADAMS). ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Web site: http://www.nrc.gov.reading-rm/adams.html.
