December 23, 2004 Mr. Garry L. Randolph Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer Union Electric Company Post Office Box 620 Fulton, MO 65251
Dear Gary:
It is our understanding that you plan to retire on December 31, 2004. We would like to take this opportunity to personally, and on the behalf of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, congratulate you and wish you well on your upcoming retirement. We have known each other many years and you have always been an outstanding representative of the nuclear power industry, your company, and the Callaway Plant. You have played a significant role in Callaways success and reputation within the nuclear industry, and should be proud that Callaway has operated safely in the 20 years since it was licensed in 1984.
Your interactions with the Commission were in a straight forward and professional manner, and you provided positive and constructive suggestions in addressing plant specific and generic industry issues and activities. You have played an important role in shaping the course of nuclear power in the United States and these efforts have made a positive contribution to improvements in the nuclear power industry in the United States.
Again I congratulate you on your retirement and wish you well in the future.
Sincerely,
/RA/
