Dear Mr. Nelson:
Thank you for your letter dated December 3, 2004, which provided the revised Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) 10 CFR 50.54(q) guidance. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has reviewed the revised guidance and notes that a number of outstanding issues have been resolved.
The NRC staff welcomes the opportunity to meet with the NEI 50.54(q) Task Force to discuss the details of the NEI 10 CFR 50.54(q) guidance. We would also like to use the meeting to discuss NEIs revised position paper titled Range of Protective Actions for Nuclear Power Plant Accidents. As you know, NRC staff provided comments on the paper to NEI in a letter dated November 23, 2004. There are many areas of agreement between NRC staff and NEI in both the guidance and the position paper upon which joint success can be achieved. Additionally, there are a few areas that we would like to explore further for clarification.
The requested meeting, which will be open to public participation, is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Monday, January 10, 2005, in the One White Flint North Building, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD in Conference Room 0-6B4.
