Subject:
Correction of Information Provided Regarding Response to Generic Letter 95-07 Ladies and Gentlemen:
During an Extent of Condition review of prior NRC submittals for completeness and accuracy, a minor inaccuracy was identified with information provided for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station (DBNPS) in letter Serial Number 2360, "Response to NRC Generic Letter 95-07,
'Pressure Locking and Thermal Binding of Safety-Related Power Operated Gate Valves,"' dated February 13, 1996. A correction to this letter is specified below (double underline indicates new inserted text; strikethrough indicates deleted previous text).
A portion of the evaluation for thermal binding of valve RC 200, Pressurizer Vent Stop Valve, on page 21 of the Attachment is modified as follows:
Mode 1 and 2 Mode 3 This valve is normally closed, and is not required to beopea ed in Modes 1, 2. or 3. Thus. but is routinely opened during operations. When open, the valve is heated to near RCS temperature. Onee closed, significant cooldown occurs. The valve has not thermally bound even when exposed to conditionswhic would be similar-to expeeted worst case s-e r.ic conditions. Therefore, thermal binding is not of concern in these modes.
The FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC) does not believe that the minor inaccuracy being corrected by this letter constitutes information that is inaccurate or incomplete in any material respect. The correction specified above addresses statements of fact that may have been incomplete or inaccurate at the time of the original submittal. No attempt has been made to update the contents of letter Serial 2360 with currently available information regarding pressure locking and thermal binding of safety-related power operated gate valves.
