INITIAL EXAMINATION CORPORATE NOTIFICATION LETTER NO. 50-186/OL-05-01, UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI - COLUMBIA

Dear Mr. Butler:

I made arrangements with Michael Dixon for the administration of operator licensing examinations at the University of Missouri - Columbia reactor. The written and operating examinations are scheduled for the week of February 14, 2005.

In order to meet this schedule, I will use the reference material you supplied for the August, 2004 examination. Please furnish any updates to this material as soon as possible to the following address:

Enclosure 2, "Applicant Responsibilities for the Written Examination," describes applicant responsibilities during the administration of the written examination. Please ensure that all applicants are aware of these rules.

Your review of the written examination will be conducted in accordance with the procedures specified in Enclosure 3, "Facility Review of Written Examinations."

Final, signed senior reactor operator license applications certifying that all training has been completed must be submitted at least 14 days before the first examination dates. This will allow the chief examiner time to review the training and experience of the applicants, process the medical certifications, and process the applications. If the review cannot be completed in time to determine an applicant's eligibility, that applicant may not be permitted to sit for the examination. Therefore, it is recommended that license applications be provided as soon as possible to ensure an appropriate level of review.

The facility licensee may provide pads of 8-1/2 by 11 inch lin for each applicant's use in completing the examination. The exa pads to the applicants as needed.

The Chief Examiner must approve any wall charts, models, or other training mater present in the examination room. No other equipment or reference material will be allo unless provided by the examiner.

The facility staff will be provided a copy of the written examination with answer key at the beginning of the administration of the written examination. The facility staff may start reviewing the examination immediately. The facility staff will then have five (5) working days to provide formal written comments with supporting documentation regarding written examination questions and answers to the Chief Examiner.

There is a time limit of one hour per section of the examination. A one section examination has a one hour time limit, a two section examination has a two hour time limit and a three section examination has a three hour time limit.

A two-hour post examination review may be held at the discretion of the Chief Examiner. If this review is held, the facility staff should be informed that only written comments that are properly supported will be considered in the grading of the examination.
