Monthly Operating Report for October 2004 Cooper Nuclear Station, Docket 50-298, DPR-46 The purpose of this letter is to provide the Cooper Nuclear Station Monthly Operating Report for October 2004. In accordance with the guidance provided by Generic Letter 97-02, this report includes an Operating Data Report and Unit Shutdown Report for the month of October. In accordance with Technical Specification 5.6.4, this report also includes documentation of challenges to the safety/relief valves.

The gross electrical output as measured at the output tenninals of the turbine-generator during the most restrictive seasonal conditions minus the normal station service loads.

Number of I tours the Reactor Was Critical.
The total number of hours during the gross hours of the reporting period that the reactor was critical.
- 4.
Number of I Hours the Generator WVas On Linc.
(Also called Service Hlours). The total number of hours during the gross hours of the reporting period trhat the unit operated with the breakers closed to the station bus.
The sum of the hours the generator was on line plus the total outage hours should equal the gross hours in the reporting period.
- 5.
Unit Resemre Shutdown Ilours.
The total number of hours during the gross hours of the reporting period that the unit was removed from service for economic or similar reasons but was amailable for operation

Net Electrical Energy (NMWII).
The gross electrical output of the unit measured at the output terminals of the turbine-gencrator minus the nonnal station service loads during the gross hours of the reporting period. expressed in mega-watt hours. Negative quantities should not be used.

SUMMARY
I8 Ociober. CNS experienced an increase in turbine bearing vibration and initiated a manual shutdown. Unit was brought omine at 04:05 on the morning o 19 October.
Note: An additional I hour was added to duration hours listed above due to daylight savings.
