"Inspection of Alloy 82/182/600 Materials Used in the Fabrication of Pressurizer Penetrations and Steam Space Piping Connections at Pressurized Water Reactors"
Dear Commissioners and Staff:
Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) provided its response to NRC Bulletin 2004-01 in PG&E Letter DCL-04-095, "60-Day Response to NRC Bulletin 2004-01, 'Inspection of Alloy 82/182/600 Materials Used in the Fabrication of Pressurizer Penetrations and Steam Space Piping Connections at Pressurized Water Reactors,"' dated July 27, 2004.
On September 28, 2004, the NRC staff requested that PG&E provide a supplement to PG&E's response to item (1) (c) of Bulletin 2004-01 regarding communications that would occur if future inspection results were to indicate that circumferential primary water stress corrosion cracking is occurring at any location covered under the scope of Bulletin 2004-01.
Accordingly, if circumferential cracking is observed in either the pressure boundary or non-pressure boundary portions of any locations covered under the scope of Bulletin 2004-01, PG&E will develop plans to perform an adequate extent-of-condition evaluation and PG&E will discuss those plans with cognizant NRC technical staff prior to restarting the affected unit.
If you have questions regarding this response, please contact Mr. Stan Ketelsen at (805) 545-4720.
Sincerely, David H. Oatley
