The reference to Leroy M. Koch, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service resulted from a personal communication with Larry E. Goldman, field supervisor, U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the regional Freshwater Mollusk Conservation Society Meeting held in Knoxville during first week of December 1999. The meeting was a three-day event. The topics of the meeting included freshwater mussel distribution, commercial mussel harvest, critique of freshwater mussel monitoring projects, and policies pertaining to threatened, endangered, and in need of management species.
